Akai entered the electronic musical instrument world in 1984 with a purpose: to give artists the tools they need to express and explore new musical ideas. Built on their advanced technology and long-standing expertise in music, Akai's instruments have become powerful creative tools for musicians, engineers and producers all over the world. In the ensuing years, Akai has introduced unique and innovative breakthrough products in the areas of sampling, synthesis and digital recording, many of which (such as the legendary S-Series samplers and the MPC series) have become industry standards in everything from professional to bedroom studios across the world. The name Akai is as closely associated to sampling as the brand name HooverT is to vacuum cleaning. Also, our post production equipment is used daily on many of the movies you queue up to see or the videos you hire to watch at home (and it's a fair bet that our musical instruments were involved somewhere in the soundtrack too!). The history of Akai is one of continued innovation and, with the recent advent of the Z4/8 (the world's first 24-bit/96kHz hardware samplers), the DPS24 (the world's first true 24-track professional automated Digital Personal Studio without data compression) and the MPD16 (the world's first USB drum pad controller), it is an history that continues to this day.
